QMW Industries has been upholding its position as a global leader in safety solutions, providing an innovative outcome to Peabody Energy’s challenges at its operation in Wyoming, America.
The Peabody team at the North Antelope Rochelle mine approached QMW to ensure their Cat 793 Dump truck, which they were converting into a tow haul truck, met appropriate safety standards.
The team at QMW was able to design and manufacture a roll over protection structure (ROPS) for the converted truck, deeming it safe to tow heavy trucks and trailers.
“We had to put a ROPS over the existing cab because it’s a higher criteria requirement when you change the configurations from a rigid body dumper to a dozer, which pushes or pulls,” says QMW Engineering and Information Technology manager Joel Hansell.
QMW Sales Engineer Ben Samuels, who assisted with the site installation in America, says, the team at Peabody is happy the mining machinery will now offer a high level of safety to the workers.
“Proudly engineered, tested and manufactured in Australia by QMW, the overfit ROPS has assured Peabody with a certified safety solution,” he says.
The solution is just one example of QMW’s ability to provide unprecedented service to its wide range of national and international clients.
The team at QMW were faced with a similar task in 2000, when Rio Tinto required a certified ROPS for its West Australian operations.
QMW was able to design and manufacture a structure that could withstand loads in excess of 400 tonnes, through rigorous testing at its National Associated of Testing Authorities (NATA) accredited testing laboratory.
